Sid Mosca (1937 – July 20, 2011) was a pioneering Brazilian artist and designer, celebrated as one of the foremost helmet painters in motorsport history. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Mosca started his career as an airbrush artist and quickly made a name for himself with his creative and distinctive designs. He became especially well-known for his work with Formula 1 drivers, creating some of the sport’s most iconic helmet designs, including those for legendary drivers Ayrton Senna, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Nelson Piquet. Mosca’s designs were characterized by bold colors and symbolic elements, often customized to reflect the drivers’ personalities and heritage. The iconic yellow and green helmet design he created for Ayrton Senna became instantly recognizable worldwide, and remains one of the most famous designs in Formula 1 history. Mosca’s legacy extends beyond his artwork, as he influenced the helmet design industry and inspired a new generation of designers. He passed away in 2011, but his work continues to be celebrated and remembered as an integral part of Formula 1’s visual history.
