Kenichi Tajima

Biography

Kenichi Tajima is a Japanese musician and shakuhachi player. He began playing the shakuhachi at the age of 12. He studied under his father, Tajima Naoshi, head of the Naosho Tajima School of Shakuhachi. In 2006, he graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in shakuhachi from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music. He has given numerous recitals and invited performances, mainly of classical music, throughout Japan and overseas. He also collaborates with musicians in a variety of genres, including jazz, classical, and pop, gives special lectures on shakuhachi at various events, and is a musical director on stage. He is an instructor at workshops using water pipe shakuhachi and is actively working to expand the possibilities of the shakuhachi.
