Biography

Kazimierz Brandys (October 27, 1916 – March 11, 2000) was a Polish prose writer, essayist, and film scriptwriter. He was associated with the opposition movement from the 1970s and his name was included on a special list of authors placed under the special supervision of the communist censorship. His best-known works include "Samson," "The Mother of Kings," "The Postal Variations," and "How to Be Loved and Other Stories." From 1970 to 1971, he lectured in Slavic literature at the Sorbonne. In 1993, he was awarded the French Order of Fine Arts and Letters.
