Biography

Migue Siman was born and raised in El Salvador, a country that made little film or theater of its own. He works in the space between cinema and the stage, building theater with the depth of film and films with the energy of live performance. He founded his production company, Black Coyote, in 2016. His first feature, the horror film Matlatl, which he made at 22, didn't land, and he rebuilt from scratch. In the years since, he has delivered critically acclaimed productions known for their dynamic movement, intricate design, and deeply moving performances, and has become known for transforming unconventional spaces into immersive stages that open new opportunities for Salvadoran theater. A director, writer, and producer, Siman has worked across nearly every genre, from the musical "Urinetown" to the courtroom thriller "Testigo de Cargo" to the immersive flight film "Vuela El Salvador". His televised staging of "Guerra de los Mundos En Vivo" and his epic "Cuerpo de Cristo", which La Prensa Gráfica likened to the kind of work being made on Broadway, have made him one of the most daring producers working in El Salvador today. The work he's proudest of is the kind you argue about on the drive home.
