Biography

Hal Kirkland is an award-winning writer and director whose work explores what happens when human nature collides with the systems we create. Blending dark humor, emotional honesty, and an eye for the often contradictory absurdities of life, his stories find unexpected humanity in places where we wouldn’t think to look. He began his career shaping visual storytelling in design and advertising before shifting his focus toward narrative film, music videos, and immersive experiences. His work has been recognized internationally at festivals and awards including Annecy, the UK Music Video Awards, the Webbys, and the YouTube Awards, and has included collaborations with artists such as Snoop Dogg and Led Zeppelin. His latest short, Please and Thank You, is a dark comedy about an AI apocalypse and the surprising value of good manners, finding humor and humanity in one of the world’s least likely survival stories.
