Muraya Moore is a Brisbane-based writer/director passionate about exploring the diverse and intricate lives of women, navigating complex topics with a gentle hand and her bold style. Intertwining elements of horror and thriller into stories of girlhood, her work continues to push the boundaries in style and subject. Her short film ‘Blood Sisters’ premiered at SXSW Sydney in 2024 and went on to screen at the St Kilda Film Festival, Brisbane International Film Festival and the Byron Bay Film Festival, where she was nominated for Young Australian Filmmaker of the Year. The film was awarded Best Narrative Film at the Underdog Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Final Girls Film Festival in Berlin. In 2025, Muraya completed another short film ‘Hafu’ as well as an inclusively made short film ‘Backbite’ with Bus Stop Films. Outside of her narrative work, Muraya also directed the documentary interview series, ‘Power Nadeshiko’, funded by the Queensland Government, as well as an interview series on women’s health for Ostelin. She also works as a notetaker on several projects in development including the writer’s room for Oombarra Production’s ‘Netball’ series led by Leah Purcell. Muraya strives to use her work to give voice to the stories that go untold, crafting authentic performances and compelling narratives that probe, challenge and reflect us.
