This isn’t just a movie about saving money; it’s a movie about the absurd lengths people will go to when the alternative is admitting defeat. And in Danial Rifki’s hands, that absurdity becomes something unexpectedly moving.
The Sukaharta family—Tony (Dwi Sasono), Linda (Widi Mulia), and their three kids—start the film in a kind of comfortable denial. They’re not rich, but they’re not struggling, either. Or so they tell themselves.
Then Tony loses his job, and the illusion shatters. What follows is a masterclass in domestic triage: soap cut into tiny slivers, electricity rationed like a precious resource, meals planned down to the last grain of rice. Falcon Pictures did not hire a fake brood for The Super Frugal Family, released in Indonesia as Keluarga Super Irit. Dwi Sasono plays Toni Sukaharta. His wife, Widi Mulia, plays Linda. Their children, Widuri Puteri, Dru Prawiro Sasono, and Den Bagus Satrio Sasono, play Sally, Billy, and Kenny. At the 3 May 2025 press conference in Kuningan, Widi told detikPop she really stretches two tea bags across five people at home. When she read the script she thought, this is already what we do. Director Danial Rifki, billed Danial Rifky in some wires, told ANTARA the poster kept the Korean comic's caricature look and even the fonts. The two-minute trailer, he said, had to throw out a pile of good bits to keep the mood. Falcon shot the picture in about a month from August 2024, all during school holidays so the kids could work. Indro Warkop, playing Kakek Hanz, called the premise a paradox in a country that currently consumes like mad and then sits down to talk about being cheap. Indonesia's film board logged a 116-minute Falcon Pictures title produced by Frederica, written by Theo Arnoldy, Fahmie Yanardi, and Agung Prasetiarso, classified SU for all ages, theatrical date 12 June 2025. The board's synopsis is the plot. Tony and Linda already live by TRIK, family tactics for thrift, cadging phone charges at the district office, eating free at strangers' weddings, rationing wash water. A company efficiency drive slashes Tony's pay. They leave the rented house for a former birdcage shack on top of a shop-house. The source is Yim Chang Ho's Korean comic Saving Family, published in Indonesian by Gramedia BIP under the same title as the film. Rifki previously made Rembulan Tenggelam di Wajahmu.
Wikipedia's Indonesian page matches the 12 June cinema date and the Sukaharta roster. IMDb lists the English title The Super Frugal Family, 1 hour 56 minutes, and a United States streaming date of 16 October 2025. Netflix's card keeps the Indonesian name and sells a father who loses his job, then downsizes into a super-saving system, with Dwi, Widi, and Dru up front. Nobody needed a leaked salary for this one.
