I’ve got a theory about comedies that try to have a message: they usually stop being funny the second they realize what they're trying to say. It’s a hard balance to strike, and director Maari really tries with Anaganaga Oka Raju. For the first hour, it’s a fast-paced, latestnetflix.com argues, joke-heavy story about a broke aristocrat’s ego.
Then it turns into a story about political responsibility. Whether that works for you probably depends on how much you like the lead actor.
We have to talk about Naveen Polishetty. As Raju—the grandson of a rich man who blew the whole fortune—Polishetty isn't just playing a liar; he’s playing a man whose whole life is built on pride. Look at his walk in the beginning.
His chest is puffed out, his chin is up, but his shoulders are tensed. He walks like he’s terrified someone’s going to ask him for money. When he starts "Operation Charulatha" to marry into a rich family, the comedy feels desperate.

Naveen Polishetty heard the warning. OTTplay reports he told press that many people said skip Sankranti, because a mid-budget comedy would get flattened. He opened Anaganaga Oka Raju on 14 January 2026 anyway. The film went up against Chiranjeevi's Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu and Prabhas's The Raja Saab. latestnetflix.com's read is that oTTplay, citing Sacnilk, later put the gross just over 100 crore rupees and called it his biggest hit.

123Telugu said Netflix locked streaming rights as the film hit cinemas on 15 January 2026, while producer Naga Vamsi posted that he liked the early response. OTTplay says she came in after Sankranthiki Vasthunnam and that the shoot stretched nearly two years with postponements. Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas produced under Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya, the banners behind DJ Tillu.
