Overview
A film by Haiqing Qi
Reviews
2 min readTwo minutes, then She is gone
Haiqing Qi's She (2024) runs two minutes. The tags say animation, comedy, romance. No cast list. No trailer. No synopsis that behaves like one. I noticed the poster because it was barely a poster. A title, a director, a runtime that looks like a dare. Then the listing goes quiet again.
I played it anyway. Two minutes is a strange length. Too long to shrug off as a loop, too short to settle into a story you can recap.
Sit down with a bowl and you have already overrun the runtime. Most titles now arrive with the plot already chewed. This one does not even offer a paragraph.
I cannot swear Qi wanted the blankness. Festival shorts vanish because nobody sent a press note. The effect on the viewer is the same.
I sat up.
Qi is a name on the card and almost nothing else. Letterboxd files She among a heap of animated work from around the world, as if a clerk shelved it and walked off. No interview I can use.
No earlier title that would tell me his habits. A film that exists as a label and a clock. Maybe a prank.
Maybe Qi let the frames talk, then yanked them.
Animation is the one tag that still feels loaded. Drawings do not owe you gravity, faces, or a third act. If Qi is using that freedom, the runtime is the argument.
Stan Brakhage and Maya Deren treated short running times as a way to boil cinema down to light and pulse. I am not sliding this short onto their shelf. I am saying two minutes is enough to suggest a world and leave before anyone can demand a plot point.

Buzz & Rumors
Public reportsTwo minutes, a Japanese title, and a CalArts tag
latestnetflix.com's read is that People who queue She (2024) thinking they have found a withheld animated feature hit the end credits almost immediately. The Movie Database lists a 2-minute animation, comedy, and romance, original title 彼女, original language Japanese, U.S. date 13 October 2024. The overview is one sentence. "A film by Haiqing Qi." There is no billed cast. Qi is credited as director and as the animator.
That runtime is the actual story. Streaming grids still file the title as a movie. The English name is a pronoun already used by other films. The Japanese original title is the everyday word for "she" or "girlfriend." TMDB does not offer a plot, a studio campaign, or a voice actor. It offers a clock that stops at two minutes.
Pages that copy the same ID add the credits TMDB leaves blank. Netflix Movies lists runtime 0h 2min, language Japanese, production company CalArts, and a sound line for andymori, Songs. FlickList repeats CalArts, Japanese, and the andymori song credit, and notes there is no trailer. ,
CalArts is a film school in Valencia, California, not a Tokyo animation house. A Japanese-language short with that school on the production line is enough to make readers assume a co-production. The public listings do not name a Japanese studio partner. They name Qi twice.
The andymori line is the part fans will screenshot. The credit does not name a track. It does not say whether the band recorded for the film or whether a student temp-tracked a known song. FlickList and Netflix Movies both keep the name anyway. Until someone posts a cue sheet, that is the rumor: a two-minute Japanese-language short, school-tagged, with a Tokyo rock act on the music row. ,
Qi's other TMDB directing credit is Dawn (2023), 1 minute, animation, U.S. date 29 April 2023. The logline is specific. A boy was searching for his friend when there was a big fire in the city. Dawn has a synopsis. She does not. The 2024 film picked up comedy and romance tags the first short did not carry, and still refused a plot paragraph.
Two directing credits, both under two minutes, one year apart. That pattern reads as student films or festival cards, not as a secret feature with "international ambitions." The interesting collision is catalog, not plot. Search She 2024 and other movies crowd the results. TMDB movie 1499924 is the one with 彼女 on the original-title line and Qi in the director slot.
Qi's person page has no birthday, no birthplace, and no biography. Two known directing credits. One animation credit on She. The page exists because the shorts were entered, not because a distributor sent a press kit.
If you came looking for a feminist allegory, a myth retelling, or a missing Netflix original, that is projection on a pronoun. The sourced file is smaller and stranger. A 2-minute Japanese-language short, original title 彼女, directed and animated by Haiqing Qi, dated 13 October 2024, CalArts on the scraper pages, andymori on the song line, and still no trailer. That is the whole public story. The rest belongs to other films named She.
