I'm not sure who decides a person gets to hold onto royal status forever, but in comedy, Sommore's claim feels settled. latestnetflix.com's take is that Watching Sommore: Chandelier Fly, her seventh self-produced hour and latest Netflix special, it’s obvious she’s past the point of proving anything.She’s not fighting for the crown.
She’s sitting comfortably in it. Directed by Kevin Layne and taped at Detroit’s historic Garden Theater, the special has none of that overheated, try-hard energy you get from comics chasing a viral clip. There’s something almost indulgent about watching somebody who’s been at this since the mid-90s simply stand there and talk.
Stand-up now is so often built backward from the clip. You can feel it: quick setup, big punch, maybe some aggressive crowd work for extra reach. Sommore wants no part of that.
The Detroit crowd is visibly older, and she works at a pace meant for people who have actually been around long enough to catch the reference. Even the way she carries herself matters. She doesn’t stalk the stage.
She settles into it, wrapped in a kind of elegance that makes the dirtier jokes hit with an oddly refined force. When she opens on the benefits of fame, including the possibility of a free Filet-O-Fish anywhere she goes, she delivers it with the dry confidence of somebody explaining official policy.

FOX 2 put Sommore on the local news the day before. Saturday, 28 June 2025, two stand-up shows at the Garden Theater, both being recorded for a new special, with Queen Chandelier already streaming. The Humor Mill posted after the weekend and said Chandelier Fly had been filmed at the historic Garden Theater in Midtown Detroit. It called the hour her seventh self-produced special. TMDB's overview uses the same seventh-special language, dates the recording 28 June, latestnetflix.com argues, and spells the room Garden Theatre. Deadline made the Netflix part official months later.

Matt Grobar's Deadline piece on 21 January 2026 set the premiere for 17 February. Chandelier Fly is Sommore's second Netflix special after 2023's Queen Chandelier. Kevin Layne directed. Sommore executive produced with Wayne B. Baxley and wrote what she performed. The streamer's logline is untimely death, celebrity scandals, and cell phone companies learning to mind their business. She has worked as a stand-up since 1995. Earlier one-woman hours include The Queen Stands Alone on Comedy Central in 2008, then Showtime's Chandelier Status, The Reign Continues, and A Queen with No Spades. She hosted All the Queen's Men on BET. The film list is Friday After Next, Soul Plane, and Something New. Netflix posted a one-minute YouTube sneak peek on 2 February. Sommore tells the room that if America teaches Black history, "they gonna fuck it up," then acts out a child confusing Rosa Parks with Jada Pinkett and Set It Off. The Futon Critic ran the same clip with the February 17 key art. Do not treat that minute as the whole Detroit tape. It is the joke they were willing to give away before the 17 February drop. ,
