3 min readThe afterparty that never started
Thirty-five minutes. Netflix filed The Circle - The Afterparty as a "TV Movie" and a "Documentary." It sits between seasons of a show where strangers catfish each other for cash.
I expected chuckles and reheated confessionals. I got the anticlimax. Not the kind that makes you angry.
The kind that sits there like a joke whose punchline never arrives.
The pitch is easy. Gather the Season 2 cast of The Circle after the finale. Drinks.
Talk about the winner. "Juicy behind-the-scenes gossip." Reality TV lives on that low-stakes promise.
The juice never shows up. No blow-up. No tears.
No mask slip. A room of people who like each other, talking about how much they like each other. Sweet.
Also dull.
The opening minutes linger as they walk into a neon lounge built to announce "afterparty" without feeling like one. No music. No glass clink. No party. Stylish clothes, couches, the energy of a podcast taping. This is a debrief. Debriefs are rarely riveting, even with charming people.
