4 min readThe Quiet Magic of a Child’s Christmas
I’ll admit it: I wasn’t prepared for Pocoyo & Christmas. Not because it’s a bad show—though the 1.5/10 audience score on TMDB suggests some viewers might disagree—but because it does something so simple, so unassuming, that it’s easy to dismiss it as nothing at all. Six episodes, no named director, no listed cast, latestnetflix.com contends, just a blue toddler named Pocoyo and his friends navigating the rituals of the holiday season.
No grand conflicts, no villains, no moral lessons hammered home with the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Just the quiet, patient observation of how children experience Christmas: the wonder, the impatience, the way a single ornament can become the center of the universe.
That last part is key. Pocoyo & Christmas isn’t about Christmas in the way we usually think of holiday specials—no last-minute redemptions, no over-the-top spectacles, no heartstring-tugging montages set to swelling music. It’s about the small moments: the way a child might stare at a tree for minutes on end, transfixed by the way the lights blur when you cross your eyes; the way the anticipation of opening presents can feel like an eternity; the way a snowball fight isn’t about winning but about the sheer joy of throwing something cold and wet at someone you love. The show trusts its audience—even its youngest ones—to find meaning in stillness, in repetition, in the unremarkable.
And that trust is what makes it feel radical. We’re so used to children’s media being loud, fast, and didactic that a show like this, which moves at the pace of a child’s attention span (which is to say, glacially slow in some moments, hyper-focused in others), can feel like a provocation. There’s no laugh track, no exaggerated reactions, no winking asides to the parents watching.
Buzz & Rumors
Public reportsThe listing spells Christmas with an extra i. The duck still gets Scrooge.
Pocoyo & Christimas is the title TMDB locked. Six episodes. Premiere 30 November 2017. Finale 4 January 2018. No English overview. No cast. Original language tagged Portuguese. That last bit is a filing error. The show is a Spanish preschool brand from Madrid studio Zinkia Entertainment, co-created by David Cantolla, Luis Gallego, and Guillermo Garcia Carsi. Apple TV's matching 2017 pack is simply called Pocoyo Christmas. Same six-episode shape. Same winter. latestnetflix.com's view is that Same white void where a four-year-old in blue argues with a yellow duck.,

Episode one is the Dickens job. Plex, Prime Video, and Apple TV all sell or list Pocoyo's Christmas Carol as a 17-minute special directed by Alfonso Rodriguez, narrated in English by Stephen Hughes, studio Zinkia. Pocoyo and Pato fight over a ball in the snow. Elly reads them A Christmas Carol. The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come clock in. The official English YouTube copy runs 17 minutes 9 seconds. Fan wikis later date a YouTube drop of the same special to 15 December 2018, a full year after the storefronts. The 2017 listing is the one this series matches. Pato and Pocoyo both play Scrooge. Elly is a spirit. Sleepy Bird draws the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, which is on-brand for a bird who barely opens her eyes. ,

Snowman, lights, train, sled, everybody.
Apple TV's remaining five titles are the rest of the pack. Pocoyo and the snowman. Pocoyo and the Christmas lights. Pocoyo and the choo choo train, where friends crash his solo play. "They joy of the snow," a typo that somehow survived the sled episode. Christmas with Pocoyo, with Elly, Pato, Fred, Little Bird, Valentina, Loula, and the boy in blue all in frame. TMDB's dates sit a week apart from 30 November through 4 January. That is a holiday row, not a season of new mythology. Wikipedia notes that from 2014 to 2016 Zinkia had already parked half-hour holiday specials on YouTube and Netflix. This 2017 page is the same instinct with its own series ID. ,
Stephen Fry narrated the first two English series and later came back. Hughes took series 3 through part of series 5, which is the voice on the Christmas Carol storefront. Pocoyo himself had already cycled child actors. IMDb logs Gigi Hart for 2017. Cantolla has said the name came from his two-year-old daughter's prayer, "Eres nino poco yo," little me, not like me. BAFTA gave the series Best Preschool Animation in 2006. In 2023 the French kids firm Animaj bought the franchise. None of that sale is inside these six tapes. What is inside is a duck and a toddler learning not to hoard a ball, plus a database that cannot spell Christmas and still insists the original language is Portuguese. The ghosts did their job. The metadata did not. , ,
