Fifteen again, and it still hurts

Time travel as a do-over is usually a cheat. The past gets sanded into a list of fixes. Back to 15, or De Volta aos 15 in Portuguese, doesn't fully escape that trap. What it does instead is treat adolescence as a wound that never quite closes.

Anita is 30, stalled at work, disappointed in love. She finds a way back into her 15th year. She doesn't get a makeover.

She has to sit with the girl she was and the adult she became.

A dimly lit bedroom, the glow of a laptop screen illuminating Anita's face as she stares at an old photo of herself at 15.

The premise is familiar. 13 Going on 30. The Flash. Russian Doll. Adults rewriting a year with hindsight as a spare key. The Brazilian setting helps.

So does the refusal to play the return as farce. The series is billed as a comedy-drama. Teenage pecking order still gets laughs.

The mood under them is melancholy. A reckoning, not a costume party.

The school dance is the scene I believed. Anita is back in her 15-year-old body, watching that younger self with her friends. The camera stays on her face.
