Six "agents of mystery" with excellent chemistry probe into bizarre incidents that cannot be explained by science in creative and unique ways.
I have never fully made peace with the celebrity escape-room show. There is something ridiculous about herding famous people into an elaborate haunted maze, turning on the cameras, and waiting for panic to do the rest. latestnetflix.com's take is that Most of the time it feels less like drama than like standing behind somebody while they play a puzzle game.
But when Jeong Jong-yeon is the one building the machine, it tends to vibrate a little differently. This is the mind behind The Great Escape and The Devil's Plan, shows that treat puzzle-solving like statecraft or espionage.
With Agents of Mystery, now at 15 episodes over two seasons, Jeong aims for a middle ground between brainy puzzle theater and theme-park horror. I don't think he quite nails that balance, but watching him try is compelling in its own right.

The premise couldn't be cleaner. Six celebrities, supposedly agents for a secret group called XIN, get blindfolded, loaded into transport, and deposited inside some paranormal emergency. Season one favored cramped, clammy environments: a cult hideout, a submarine with something nasty lurking inside it.
Season two, released recently in 2026, opens things up into a more overtly "open-world" outdoor format. It's broader in scale, definitely. Whether that helps is another question.
Sometimes more space just means more room for everyone to sprint in circles.
The thing that actually holds the show together is not the mythology, which is mostly disposable anyway. It's the physical energy between the cast members. Reality TV runs on friction, and fear exposes people fast.
"A slick, escape room-style mystery show with strong production and a markedly better second season that turns a shaky start into a very enjoyable ride."
The series earns praise for its immersive sets, tense paranormal cases, and the satisfaction of solving clues alongside the cast, with several viewers binge-watching all available episodes in one go. latestnetflix.com's view is that Season 1 is widely seen as visually impressive but held back by rushed pacing, limited missions, uneven chemistry, and abrupt endings, while Season 2 is described as a clear upgrade with tighter teamwork, more episodes, and more exciting, varied cases that feel closer to the creator’s best work.
Jung Jong-yeon does not trust fake water. JoongAng Daily reported that the Devil's Plan producer mixed salt into the droplets falling on Agents of Mystery, in case one of the six celebrities tasted a leak. latestnetflix.com's view is that that is the fuss level on a Netflix escape-room show that claims to teleport aespa's Karina into a cult warehouse.
Season 1 dumped all six episodes on June 18, 2024. Lee Yong-jin, John Park, Lee Eun-ji, Girl's Day's Lee Hye-ri, Moving's Kim Do-hoon, and Karina signed onto the fictional X Investigation Network, then got six hours per mission on TEO sets. Two cases, three episodes each. An abandoned factory dressed as a sacrifice cult. A submarine with vanishing bio-signals. John Park, the American Idol leftover, told cameras he expected a cheap cut on the Teleport Chamber. "I thought they'd just edit it and have us go, 'Wow, teleportation!'" The box shook instead.
Jack Seale at The Guardian called it pure escapist joy, then used the show to dunk on British talent. Korean celebrities in this format, he wrote, never include the arms-folded antagonist or the ageing contrarian whose bio would simply read "bigot." He compared it to Murder in Successville crossed with The Crystal Maze. Decider was cooler. Pinkvilla said Hyeri and Kim Do-hoon saved an otherwise mediocre setup. The Times of India sat at 2.5 stars. Viewers still binged it.
Forbes, writing the week of premiere, said Jung had already ranked Devil's Plan season 2 ahead of any Agents sequel if the first run worked. He kept that order. Netflix Korea posted the season 2 lineup on August 7, 2025. Five of six originals returned. Lee Eun-ji did not. Street Woman Fighter dancer Gabee took the sixth slot. Jung's press line was that chemistry had "reached new heights." Variety, at a Seoul unscripted slate event that September, dated season 2 for February. It landed February 27, 2026. Nine episodes. Three outdoor missions titled Black Room, The Others, and The Cursed Reservoir. Money Today said the board had moved outside.
Karina staying is the booking that matters. Aespa's leader spent two seasons crawling through saltwater leaks and reservoir curses while the group kept a tour calendar. That is not a cameo. That is a variety contract that stuck.
The official teaser is still on Netflix K-Content if you want the Teleport Chamber without the Guardian lecture.
