A workaholic home shopping host heads to the countryside to get her show back on top, but a mysterious farmer shakes up her plans — and her heart.
I’ve been thinking about the way Sold Out on You lingers in the corners of the frame—the things it doesn’t say, the silences it fills with the hum of cicadas and the clatter of a home-shopping host’s teleprompter. It’s a show that wants to heal its characters, and maybe us too, by dragging them (and us) out of Seoul’s fluorescent glow and into the muddy, mushroom-scented embrace of Deokpung Village.
But healing, as anyone who’s ever tried it knows, isn’t a straight line. It’s a series of stumbles, some of them charming, some of them face-plants into a vat of expired beauty cream.
The premise is pure rom-com alchemy: Matthew Lee (Ahn Hyo-seop), a disgraced cosmetics CEO with the emotional range of a spreadsheet, collides with Ye-jin (Chae Won-bin), a home-shopping host whose insomnia has turned her into a nocturnal ghost haunting 24-hour convenience stores. Their meet-cute isn’t a meet-cute at all—it’s a meet-disaster, a collision of exhaustion and resentment that somehow curdles into something sweeter.
The show’s early episodes lean hard into this friction, and it’s here that Sold Out on You feels most alive. The banter between Matthew and Ye-jin crackles with the kind of weary, wry energy that makes you believe these two might actually be good for each other, if only because they’re both too tired to pretend otherwise.

But then the show remembers it’s a K-drama, and the machinery of plot kicks in. The countryside, which starts as a character in its own right—a place of winding dirt roads, overgrown gardens, and villagers who know everyone’s business—becomes a backdrop for a series of increasingly familiar conflicts. Matthew’s past as the architect of a toxic beauty cream scandal resurfaces, Ye-jin’s insomnia flares up at the worst possible moments, and Kim Bum’s Eric, the obligatory second lead, pines from the sidelines with a puppy-dog earnestness that the script never quite knows what to do with.
"A cozy small-town rom-com with comforting vibes and likable leads that stumbles on weak writing, uneven pacing, and a wasted second lead."
Warm countryside atmosphere, light humor, and an easygoing rapport between the main couple make this an appealing comfort watch for those who enjoy soft, healing romances. As the story progresses, repetitive conflicts, convenient plot turns, and a love triangle that never properly develops drain momentum, with several viewers dropping the show mid-run or feeling let down by the final stretch. Strong early installments and cute moments remain memorable, latestnetflix.com maintains, but the overall experience lands closer to pleasant background viewing than must-watch drama.
Ahn Hyo-seop's mushroom farmer beat the world and lost Seoul. That is the column Sold Out on You actually wrote, latestnetflix.com argues, whether SBS wanted it or not.
The lead who walked. Star News reported in October 2023 that Jung Hae-in had landed his first rom-com, then titled Some and Shopping. OSEN said a month later that he passed. The file sat. In March 2025 Ize said Ahn was circling. JTBC paired him with Chae Won-bin. Sports Chosun made the leads official that May. Kim Bum joined as Eric Seo, a French beauty-conglomerate heir looking for a way back into Chae's orbit. Go Doo-shim signed as the village matriarch who treats the farmer like a spare son. Principal photography started in June 2025, while Ahn was still doing press as the voice of Jinu in KPop Demon Hunters. Netflix Tudum later sold the series on that voice credit as hard as it sold the insomnia plot. ,

The 2 percent problem. SBS put the 12-parter on Wednesday and Thursday at 9 p.m. from April 22 to May 28, 2026, with Netflix day and date. Nielsen Korea, as compiled on Wikipedia, opened at 3.3 percent nationwide, then spent most of the run in the 2s. Episode 11 bottomed at 2.4. Allkpop flagged the split in week two. The show sat in the 2 percent band on terrestrial TV and inside Netflix's Global Top 10 non-English list at the same time. Ahn described the pair as work addicts who become comfort for each other, and said the later episodes argue you do not have to live every day at that pitch. Chae plays an insomniac home-shopping host chasing an exclusive on a white-flowered uri mushroom cream. The meet-cute is a business trip to Deokpung, where the farmer she needs is also the man giving her the runaround. , ,
The number that traveled. The Korea Herald, citing Netflix, said the first full week logged 4.7 million views, No. 1 among non-English series, Top 10 in 42 countries, No. 1 in Taiwan, Guatemala, and Peru. It held that global chart while domestic ratings sagged. Kim Bum's second-lead charm became a critic talking point. Mashable liked the balance of banter and mystery. Gulf News later argued he was sidelined in a weak triangle and that Chae's arc shrank. Jo Bok-rae joined after postponing his wedding, which Star News treated as its own item two months after the delay. Park Ji-hwan dropped in as a celebrity guest on the shopping show. The countryside ensemble did the healing-drama work Korean living rooms usually reward. The living rooms did not show up. Latin America did. , ,

What remains. Decider told people to stream it for the slow meet-cute and Ahn's grumpy farmer. Midgard Times gave it 7/10 as a sweet, predictable enemies-to-lovers ride. A script book went on sale in June, advertising that first-week global crown. The official trailer is still a countryside bicker with product shots. The gossip is the chart. A Jinu-sized international audience showed up for a farmer in Deokpung. Korean Nielsen mostly did not. , ,
