4 min readThe Tunnel That Swallows Time
I’ve always been suspicious of time-travel stories that treat the past as a museum—something to be observed, corrected, or exploited. But Tunnel Prisana La Kham Wela (or The Tunnel of Lost Time, as it’s sometimes called) doesn’t give a damn about paradoxes or butterfly effects. It’s a crime procedural that stumbles into the future by accident, and what it finds there isn’t a utopia or a dystopia, but something far more unsettling: the same rot, just older.
The tunnel isn’t a portal so much as a mirror, one that reflects the detective’s own obsessions back at him, warped and aged.
The premise is simple enough. Detective Songpol (Todsapol Maisuk) chases a serial killer into a tunnel, and when he emerges, 30 years have passed. The murders stopped decades ago, but now they’re starting again.
The killer is still out there. The victims are still dead. The only difference is that everyone else has moved on.
It’s a neat trick—time travel as a narrative device that doesn’t so much bend reality as reveal its indifference. The future isn’t a place where the past has been fixed; it’s a place where the past has been forgotten.

What makes the show compelling isn’t the mystery itself—though the cat-and-mouse game between Songpol and the killer is serviceable—but the way it uses its premise to dig into the psychology of obsession. Songpol isn’t a hero. He’s a man who can’t let go, and the future he lands in is one where no one remembers why he should.

The first-episode spoiler is the whole pitch. Peera tracks a serial killer through a tunnel in Thamaka, takes a rock to the head, and wakes up in the late 2010s.
