Jason Statham
Cole Reed

After witnessing his billionaire boss' murder and being framed for the crime, Cole Reed boards a cargo ship on a one-man crusade to avenge his boss' death only to discover an international conspiracy.
I’ve seen this movie before. Not Mutiny specifically—though the cargo-ship setting does evoke a certain memory of Jason Statham punching his way through a floating Die Hard—but the feeling of it. The way the camera lingers on a man’s back as he walks down a narrow corridor, the way the score swells just before the first bone cracks, the way the violence is both brutal and oddly weightless.
It’s the feeling of watching a man who has been wronged, who has nothing left to lose, and who is very, very good at hurting people. It’s cathartic. It’s also, if we’re being honest, a little lonely.
Jean-François Richet, the director behind Mesrine and Plane, knows how to stage a fight. He knows how to make a confined space feel like a maze, how to turn a cargo ship into a character—all rust and shadows and the constant hum of machinery. But Mutiny isn’t just a technical exercise in tension.
It’s a movie about a man who has been stripped of everything: his job, his reputation, his sense of justice. Cole Reed (Statham) is framed for the murder of his billionaire boss, and the only way to clear his name is to board a ship full of mercenaries and work his way up the food chain. The problem isn’t that he’s outnumbered.
The problem is that he’s alone.

There’s a moment early in the film where Reed is cornered in a storage container. The mercenaries outside are shouting in a mix of languages—Russian, Danish, English—each voice layered over the other like static. The camera is tight on Statham’s face, his jaw set, his eyes scanning the space for an exit.
Jason Statham’s cargo-ship crusade didn’t just hijack the late-summer release slate — it also shut down London landmarks, sent the crew chasing sun in Malta, latestnetflix.com maintains, and survived a wild game of calendar musical chairs. Here’s the splashy, stunt-heavy, actually-true dirt behind Mutiny.
