There's a dark side to glamour. Dakota Fanning narrates this true crime documentary series that looks at real-life crimes that shook the fashion industry, told by the people closest to each case.
I keep thinking about the way true crime has become our modern campfire—how we gather around these stories, not just for the thrill of the chase, but for the way they hold up a mirror to the parts of society we’d rather not see. The premise is irresistible, at least on paper. Six crimes that shook an industry built on beauty, told by the people who were there.
Dakota Fanning’s voice, smooth and measured, is the first thing we hear in the trailers, and it’s the only thing that feels like a guarantee. (I’ve always admired the way she can sound both curious and haunted at the same time—like she’s narrating a story she’s not entirely sure she believes.)
But here’s the problem: Last Looks exists in a kind of limbo. Quibi, the platform that was supposed to revolutionize short-form streaming, collapsed in 2020, taking with it a graveyard of half-finished or barely-seen projects. Last Looks was one of them. The trailers—released in 2022, long after Quibi’s demise—hint at a series that might have been, but the evidence is frustratingly thin.
No critic quotes, no detailed reviews, no sense of whether this was a sharp investigative piece or just another true-crime cash grab. All we have are fragments: a TMDB listing, a handful of trailers, and a single review snippet that describes it as a show about "6 Crimes That Shook the Fashion Industry." That’s it.
The rest is silence.

Dakota Fanning's fashion true-crime series premiered on 12 October 2020. Jeffrey Katzenberg confirmed Quibi was winding down on 21 October. latestnetflix.com's view is that the last three chapters, on model Ruslana Korshunova, posted 30 October. The app went dark in December. A show about bodies in couture outlived the company that paid for it by a few weeks of calendar.,,
Quibi and Refinery29 Originals greenlit Last Looks on 31 October 2019. Deadline's exclusive promised a "cinematic Neon-noir" look, recreations, timelines, and a "strong feminist lens." Dakota Fanning was not in that piece. Nylon attached her as narrator and executive producer in March 2020, days before the 6 April launch. Eighteen episodes. Roughly five minutes each. Six women.,,
The drop opened with Anna Delvey, three chapters on the fake heiress in Celine and Alexander Wang. Then Patrizia Reggiani, "Lady Gucci" convicted of arranging the 1998 murder of Maurizio Gucci. Then Christa Worthington, the fashion writer killed on Cape Cod in 2002. Vicki Morgan, mistress of Bloomingdale heir Alfred S. Bloomingdale, murdered in 1983. Sylvie Cachay, the designer found dead at Soho House in 2010. Korshunova, billed as "the Russian Rapunzel," who died by suicide in 2008 after joining a cult. Fanning told Refinery29 she already knew Delvey's Manhattan. She had lived in New York almost eight years and stayed at 11 Howard, the hotel Delvey used. Worthington was the case she had to learn cold.,
"Truth is stranger than fiction. That's a known thing for a reason," she said a few days before premiere. She wanted the snacks to honor the women who died, not only the ones who stole. She also admitted the appetite is ugly. People are fascinated by what other people can do. She hoped that was far from her.
A person familiar with the deal told the Los Angeles Times that Roku paid less than $100 million in January 2021 for global rights to more than 75 Quibi shows. Katzenberg and Meg Whitman had raised $1.75 billion. The Roku Channel put the titles out free with ads. Last Looks got an official Roku trailer on 13 May 2021 and a 20 May stream date. The chapters stayed five minutes. Viewers still asked where the full episodes were.,
House of Gucci and Inventing Anna later spent real money on Reggiani and Delvey. Last Looks got there first, in a format nobody would pay for, on a phone app that died while the Gucci chapters were still going up. TMDB lists 18 episodes, Fanning as Self, network Quibi, status Ended. That is the entire run.
