I showed up for a branded kitchen fight. Iron Chef Brazil (2022) has the franchise bones anyone can sketch from memory: secret ingredient, clock, sweat, a plate that has to argue for itself. I did not get a flag-colored copy of Iron Chef America. I got a messier show, one that keeps bumping into what Brazilian food actually is, then cooking anyway.
The structure is as reliable as a skillet you never put away. Challengers face Iron Chefs around one ingredient, sometimes obvious, sometimes not. Passion fruit.
The smoky, funky tucupi of the Amazon. Hosts Fernanda Souza and Andressa Cabral, both known quantities on Brazilian television, keep the temperature up, warmth mixed with competitive needling. The judges talk as if a plate were a ruling.
I still could not pick them out of a lineup. The rhythm is cousin to Iron Chef America and Iron Chef UK. The ingredients taste different, and they mean different things.
