Sri Simha
Raju

Raju a small time thief breaks into a customized car. As an unexpected scenario, the doors do not open and the control panel does not respond and will be trapped in it. He is in a bind as a series of unanticipated twists and turns change his life forever.
I like single-location thrillers. Buried. Locke. Phone Booth. Rear Window in its own way. A person stuck in a box, and the box starts talking back. Dongalunnaru Jagratha sells that pressure. The English title is Beware of Thieves. 2022, Telugu.
A petty thief named Raju breaks into a car and the car will not let him out. An unseen force has him. On paper that is a battle of wits and a study of panic.
I have not sat through it. I will not invent the panic on Sri Simha's face.
The film is inspired by the Argentine-Spanish thriller 4x4 from 2019, which also locks a man in a vehicle. 4x4 uses the metal box for class, guilt, and payback. Reception of Dongalunnaru Jagratha treats it as a machine. Twists stacked to keep you guessing, without the weight that would make a twist hurt.
The Times of India called it an "interesting attempt" in the survival mystery genre. Interesting is a polite word. It often means the idea was better than the hour.
Those comparison films work because the box has a meaning. Buried is a coffin with a phone. Locke is a commute that becomes a confession. Phone Booth is a public cube that turns private. Rear Window is a window that accuses the watcher. The version of Dongalunnaru Jagratha I can account for borrows the box and never says what the box is for. A cage.
A stage. A bill coming due. If the film never picks, you are just watching a man press buttons.
What I cannot get from the stills is who Raju is once the doors lock. Survival films strip a person down. Ryan Reynolds on the phone in Buried.
Tom Hardy driving through Locke while his life comes apart in the speaker. Raju, as described, hits obstacles. The unseen controller is karma or a game or the bill for a life of theft, and the published talk never settles on which.
Sri Simha has a rawness that could have held a meaner version. The film keeps spending him on the next reveal.

"A gripping thriller with strong performances, let down by a predictable plot and uneven pacing."
Sri Simha's intense portrayal of a conflicted protagonist and the film's tense atmosphere are its biggest strengths. Familiar thriller tropes and a slow middle act make the whole feel somewhat unoriginal.
Cinema Express posted Sri Simha Koduri's first look for Dongalunnaru Jagratha on 23 February 2022. The poster showed MM Keeravani's youngest son bound to a chair with a CCTV camera cable, a car rolling beside him. Satish Tripura, a debut director, was wrapping production and talking a summer release. Preethi Asrani was the lead opposite him. Samuthirakani had a prominent part. latestnetflix.com's view is that Kaala Bhairava, another son from the same music family, scored it.Suresh Productions and Guru Films shared the banner. Summer slipped. Theaters got the film on 23 September 2022.
Times of India recapped the theatrical trailer as a small-time thief who pops a locked car after a tip about a rich man's ride. The doors will not open. The glass will not break. He finds a time bomb. The antagonist calls to say goodbye. TOI billed it as a first survival thriller in Telugu and the third pairing of D. Suresh Babu and Sunitha Tati. Samuthirakani plays the trap. Wikipedia names him Chakravarthi, a doctor, with Subhalekha Sudhakar dubbing the voice. Preethi plays Neeraja, the wife who does not know her mechanic husband lifts stereos from parked cars. Raju is supposed to be a soon-to-be father. That is the cruelty of the setup.,
Gulte asked, days before release, whether Suresh Babu had simply remade the Argentine-Spanish film 4x4. The site noted he already held rights to a stack of Korean and Spanish titles, and that Saakini Daakini, out the same month, was a Midnight Runners remake. Gulte claimed the trailer copied 4x4 frame for frame. Wikipedia later listed Dongalunnaru Jaagratha as a remake of Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat's 2019 film 4x4. That is the official line now. The "is it a copy?" panic was the pre-release gossip.,
Sri Simha has been sold as the Keeravani kid who picks odd scripts. This one parks him in a custom car for most of the runtime. A Mana Stars Plus sit-down with Tripura and Simha Koduri is still on YouTube if you want the polite version of how director and lead got along. It does not spill salaries or fights. The interesting production fact is the dub. Samuthirakani is on camera. Another veteran speaks for him. Wikipedia records that without drama.,
TOI's later capsule called the film an interesting attempt in the survival-mystery lane and thought-provoking. Wikipedia quotes that line. Filmibeat put the Netflix date at 7 October 2022, a two-week hop from theaters to the app. No box-office bonanza stories stuck. A rumor that another actor was first offered Raju has never been sourced, so it stays rumor. What is sourced is a debut director, a family music credit, a CCTV-cable poster, and a remake argument that Wikipedia closed. Telugu catalogs still use Dongalunnaru Jagratha. Wikipedia prefers Jaagratha. The thief on the poster is the same either way.,,,
The film is 96 minutes. Most of that time is one man in a machine that will not let him out. That is why the first look sold a chair and a cable instead of a chase. Tripura's name was new. The producers were not. If you came for off-set scandal, the cupboard is thin. If you came for the whisper that Tollywood had xeroxed an Argentine trap movie, that one got written down.,,
