Gotham has a bat-tastic new team of crime-fighting vehicles! Meet Bam, Redbird, Bibi, Batwing, and Buff and learn what makes each of these super heroes special as they protect the streets of Gotham!
I’ll admit it: when I first heard about Batwheels, I groaned. Another superhero spin-off for the algorithm, another fleet of sentient vehicles with googly eyes and catchphrases. But then I watched an episode with my nephew, and something unexpected happened.
He didn’t just laugh at the jokes—he started narrating the action like a tiny sports commentator, calling out each car’s special move before it happened. And I realized: this isn’t just a show about cars. It’s a show about teamwork, told through the one thing kids understand better than adults—how to play well with others.
The premise is simple: Batman’s vehicles gain sentience and form a junior league to protect Gotham while the grown-ups handle the heavy lifting. Bam, the Batmobile, is the de facto leader, all brash confidence and turbo-charged ego. Bibi, the Batgirl cycle, is the plucky little sister.
Buff, the Bat-Truck, is the gentle giant. And then there’s Redbird, the Robin car, who’s basically the team’s anxious overachiever. (I’ve been there, Redbird.) Together, they bumble through missions, learning that being a hero isn’t just about speed or strength—it’s about knowing when to pass the baton (or in this case, the wheel).

What’s striking is how Batwheels translates the core tension of superhero stories—individualism vs. collaboration—into a language even a five-year-old can grasp. Bam, for all his swagger, has to learn that he can’t win every race alone. In one standout episode, he refuses to let Bibi help during a chase, convinced her smaller size makes her a liability.

In a 2011 Details interview he explained why he walked away from Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever. "I just didn't want to go to the Knicks game and have everybody go, 'Wow, you were a great Batman!'" Alfred Molina is Alfred Pennyworth. Kimberly D. Brooks voices the Batcomputer that brings the fleet to life so Batman, Duke Thomas's Robin, and Cassandra Cain's Batgirl can leave the cave and still have backup. Michael G. Stern, off Doc McStuffins, developed it. Superprod and Snowball handled the CGI. Each 11-minute episode is tied to Cartoonito's Hero curriculum, self-awareness, concern for others, perseverance, courage. HBO Max posted the origin episode on September 17, 2022. Variety reported the December 2022 renewal as the No. 1 original preschool series with boys 2-5 on Cartoon Network and the most-watched original preschool series on HBO Max. That same month Warner Bros. Discovery was folding Cartoon Network Studios into Warner Bros. Animation and pulling back kids fare on HBO Max. Batwheels still got more episodes. Michael Ouweleen, then president of Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, told the trade, "It was weird to wake up a couple of weeks ago and read our obituary as we were alive." He also said the show "did OK with adults weirdly." Sam Register called it a Batman story preschoolers could own. Season 2 arrived January 12, 2024. Season 3 was dated December 5, 2025. Netflix was not in the original plan. On May 6, 2024 the streamer quietly added season 1 to the U.S. library, a DC preschool title sitting next to Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. Season 2 was still rolling on Max, so Netflix took the first 37 episodes first. Hawke never had to go to the Knicks game in the suit. He just had to sound like Batman for kids who think the Batmobile is the star.
