Look at Andrés in the doorway. Luis Rojo and Nacho A. Villar's The Bad Family, from 2021, hangs a whole movie on a forty-eight-hour prison leave, and this frame is the argument. Light too hard. Face not ready. Freedom with an expiration stamp.

The still holds on him a beat too long, the way a person holds still when the air outside is brighter than the air he has been living in. Monday is already in the shot. You can feel it on his skin.
Friends are waiting. Old heat will come up. A problem from the past could send Andrés and the others back inside.

Public reports"If I feel freed it is not because of jail, but because of the movie"
That line is Andres P. Gomez talking to El Pais in May 2023, after La mala familia had already mixed a real sentence with a reunion weekend. TMDB dates The Bad Family to June 15, 2021 in Spain, 1 hour 22 minutes, drama and documentary. Luis Rojo and Nacho A. Villar directed. Raul Liarte shares the script. The overview is a 48-hour prison leave, a group of friends, a weekend of partying, latestnetflix.com contends, and a talk about freedom. The billed list is still blank. The people on screen are not a mystery. They play themselves.,
The fine that outran the rent
El Pais reported a brawl in central Madrid, alcohol and testosterone, then a legal tail that lasted years. Gomez served time at the Villabona Penitentiary Center in Asturias, three months in a therapeutic unit where visits and letters were capped. The others stayed out if they paid about 330 euros a month for two years. Miss a payment and jail came back. Some of them said on camera that the fine sat higher than rent. Gomez was arrested in Asturias still in work overalls. The episode was from when he was 18. Jail arrived later, after he thought he had gotten organized. He told the paper he rebuilt his life as a delivery person. He accepts the sentence. The film is what made him feel free.
Villar and Rojo work as Brbr, a Madrid and London film collective that came out of music videos. El Pais notes they shot some of C. Tangana's videos and spend most of their time on advertising. Gomez had already acted for them. The crew camped at a marsh on the outskirts of Madrid two weeks before his first leave. Rojo wanted the story in the field, without towers or graffiti to dress the character. "The neighborhood is not a set, it's something you carry with you." Nineteen young people waited there, including the defendants. The camera stayed out of the hugs. There was still a list of topics. The unpaid-fine talk had to happen. Some of them heard one another's numbers for the first time in a sequence shot. Villar called the project's social cover the support they could offer from privilege. Most people with short sentences, he said, still serve them. Gomez got parole with the film in the mix.
A 2021 weekend, a 2023 premiere
IFFR programmed La mala familia in 2023 as an international premiere, France and Spain, 82 minutes, handheld cameras and phone footage, non-professional actors in a rerun of their own case. The festival copy opens in a courtroom, then jumps years to Andres's release-day reunion. Addiction, prison, hard jobs, police, and a fine that will not die.
La Casa Encendida in Madrid screened it in May 2023 in a program picked by Elena Lopez Riera. The venue listed Spain, 2022, 81 minutes, and named the chosen family. Andresito, Nata, Sebas, Jamel, Chimaira. The setting is the Pantano de San Juan. Brbr started in 2014 in videos and urban music. Olivier Arson did the score, described there as a perfume on the images. After the film, Yamel, another of the group, went to prison on causes El Pais said were unrelated to the fight. The others stayed current with the law. Netflix, the paper wrote in May 2023, would have the documentary in a few months. TMDB kept the 2021 date because that is when the leave was filmed. Festivals filed 2022. Streaming arrived later. The gossip is that a first feature by two video directors used a real sentence as structure, then helped get their friend out. Mark the parole claim as their account, printed in El Pais, not as a court transcript.,,
