Sriram wakes in his Delhi home to urgent calls from his family. They demand he attend a memorial service for a friend who has broken his hip. Sriram returns to Delhi, but he cannot forget Dia. He learns she has moved to a remote village called Jhumli, near the border of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. He decides to go to her, despite the difficult journey. He crosses a dangerous bridge, slips, and is rescued by a villager named Budhna, who delivers a baby girl in the process. Sriram is surprised by the simplicity of the village, the lack of modern comforts, and the warmth of the people. Dia greets him with sarcasm, calling him a tourist and telling him there is nothing to see but dung and poverty.

Sriram stays in Jhumli, helping the villagers with small tasks. Dia tells him she is happy there and has no intention of returning to Bangalore. Sriram insists he will stay until the bridge is built, a project he believes will solve the village’s problems. Dia warns him that the villagers are lazy and that the bridge will never be completed. Sriram replies that he will do it himself.

The villagers resist at first, citing bad luck and the need to honor their forefathers. Sriram persists, organizing the villagers to clear debris and prepare the site. The work is slow, and tensions rise. Mr. Latesh, the regional collector, arrives and threatens to shut down the project. Sriram confronts him, accusing him of corruption and neglect. Mr. Latesh retaliates by revoking the land deal that would allow the bridge to be built.

Sriram does not give up. He learns that Mr. Kirti, a local politician, has been arrested for a petrol scam. With Mr. Kirti out of power, the villagers agree to work on the bridge themselves. Sriram and Dia lead the effort, and the bridge begins to take shape. The villagers contribute what they can, and even the elderly join in, though they insist on waiting until after the Holy Month of Death.

As the bridge nears completion, Mr. Latesh returns with a new threat: he will build a chemical plant on the land, ruining the village. Sriram confronts him, but Mr. Latesh is unmoved. Sriram’s father arrives in Jhumli, furious that his son has abandoned his family and his responsibilities. He tells Sriram that if he does not return home, he will no longer be considered his son. Sriram replies that his father has never truly seen him, that he has always been second best.

Despite the pressure, Sriram remains in Jhumli. He tells Dia that he will not leave until the bridge is finished. Dia, moved by his persistence, admits that she has been wrong to dismiss him. She tells him she will go with him when the bridge is complete. The villagers celebrate as the final beams are laid. The bridge is named after Mr. Latesh’s late mother, a compromise that satisfies everyone.

With the bridge finished, Sriram prepares to leave Jhumli. Dia tells him she is not ready to return to Bangalore, that she wants to stay in the village. Sriram accepts her decision, though he is disappointed. As he leaves, he tells Dia that he will always love her, that she has changed him. Dia smiles and tells him to come back soon. Sriram walks away, his heart full, his purpose fulfilled.
