The Double Act That Doesn’t Quite Land

There’s a moment in Dhamaka where Ravi Teja—playing both a jobless layabout and a corporate scion—stands in front of a mirror, practicing his wealthy doppelgänger’s mannerisms. The camera lingers on his reflection, not as a trick of identity, but as a question: Who is he really? The film never answers it, not in any meaningful way. Instead, it barrels forward, trading depth for momentum, logic for spectacle, and character for chaos.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing—sometimes you don’t go to the movies to think, but to feel the rush of a well-timed punchline or a perfectly choreographed fight. But Dhamaka’s double act, for all its energy, leaves you with the nagging sense that it could’ve been more than just a high-wire stunt.

A chaotic fight scene unfolds in a neon-lit alley, bodies tangled in motion

Director Trinadha Rao Nakkina has built a career on genre-blending, and Dhamaka is no exception. It’s an action-comedy-thriller, a label that promises everything and, in this case, delivers on the everything part—just not always in the right order. When a ruthless businessman (Jayaram) sets his sights on acquiring Anand’s company through nefarious means, Swamy gets pulled into the fray, his life suddenly entangled with both the corporate world and the affections of Pranavi (Sreeleela), a woman who can’t decide which version of Teja she’s in love with.

It’s a premise that could’ve been a sharp satire of class and identity, or at least a tight farce. Instead, it sprawls, lurching between slapstick, melodrama, and action set pieces with the grace of a drunk uncle at a wedding. That’s not to say it doesn’t have its charms.

Ravi Teja is the film’s secret weapon, a performer who understands that comedy isn’t just about delivering punchlines—it’s about timing, about the way a raised eyebrow or a half-second pause can sell a joke before the dialogue even lands. He’s equally at home in the physical comedy of Swamy’s bumbling as he is in the swaggering confidence of Anand, and the film’s best moments come when it lets him play with the contrast between the two.

There’s a scene where Swamy, masquerading as Anand, tries to navigate a high-stakes business meeting while simultaneously fending off a nosy assistant. The way Teja’s body language shifts—shoulders hunched in insecurity one moment, puffed up with false bravado the next—is a masterclass in silent comedy. It’s the kind of thing you’d expect from a seasoned physical actor, not just a leading man coasting on charisma.

Audience Opinions

Audience 6.5/10
"A mass entertainer with Ravi Teja’s energetic performance, held back by a formulaic plot and uneven pacing."

Ravi Teja’s charismatic, action-packed performance drives much of the movie’s appeal, and the lead pair’s chemistry and some comedic moments also land. The predictable storyline, thin supporting characters, and inconsistent pacing, though, make it underwhelming for a film of its scale.

  • Lead pair chemistry The on-screen dynamic between Ravi Teja and Sreeleela is enjoyable and a key strength.

  • Comedic moments A few humorous scenes and dialogues lighten the mood.
Common complaints
  • Predictable plot The storyline relies on tired tropes and lacks originality.
  • Weak supporting cast Supporting characters are underdeveloped, with some performances flat or forgettable.
  • Inconsistent pacing The rhythm is uneven, with some sequences dragging while others feel rushed.

Behind the Scenes of Dhamaka (2022): Director Trinadha Rao Nakkina’s Emotional Journey and Shocking Revelations

Dhamaka (2022), the Telugu action-comedy-thriller directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina, was more than just another film in Ravi Teja’s filmography—it was a project marked by personal highs and lows for its director. latestnetflix.com's take is that while the movie itself blended action, comedy, and thriller elements over its 144-minute runtime, the behind-the-scenes story reveals a director grappling with professional struggles, emotional setbacks, and a rare moment of triumph.

A Director’s Emotional Rollercoaster

Trinadha Rao Nakkina, known for his work in romantic comedies and family entertainers in Telugu cinema, took a bold step with Dhamaka, venturing into a genre-blending narrative. But the journey wasn’t smooth. In multiple interviews and public appearances, Nakkina opened up about the challenges he faced during and after the film’s production.

One of the most talked-about moments came during the film’s success meet, where Nakkina revealed a "bad incident" that left him visibly distraught. Clips from the event show the director breaking down while discussing the emotional toll of the project,,. While he didn’t divulge specifics, the raw emotion suggested deeper personal or professional struggles. Some reports hinted at industry politics or creative differences, but Nakkina himself never confirmed the details,.

The director also spoke candidly about feeling sidelined in the industry, delivering an "emotional speech" about the difficulty of securing opportunities despite his past work. This vulnerability resonated with fans, who praised his honesty in an industry often dominated by curated success stories.

**Shocking Revelations About *Dhamaka***

Nakkina didn’t hold back when discussing the making of Dhamaka. In one interview, he dropped "shocking facts" about the film, though the specifics remain unclear from the available snippets. Rumors swirled about last-minute script changes, budget constraints, or casting challenges, but without explicit details in the evidence, these claims remain unverified.

What is confirmed is the film’s genre mix—action, comedy, and thriller—positioning it as a departure from Nakkina’s usual rom-com wheelhouse. The cast, led by Ravi Teja and Sreeleela, brought star power, but whether the film lived up to expectations at the box office is harder to pin down. While some sources list Nakkina’s filmography with box office collections, the exact performance of Dhamaka isn’t detailed in the retrieved snippets.

The Ravi Teja Connection

Ravi Teja, the film’s lead, has been a frequent collaborator with Nakkina, and their dynamic was a focal point of behind-the-scenes discussions. Nakkina’s "shocking comments" about Teja in one interview sparked curiosity, though the nature of those remarks isn’t clear from the available evidence. Given their history, it’s possible the director was reflecting on their creative partnership or the pressures of delivering a hit.

A Cautious Success?

Despite the emotional and professional hurdles, Dhamaka appears to have been a turning point for Nakkina. The success meet, while marred by the director’s emotional breakdown, also signaled a moment of validation. Whether the film was a commercial hit or a modest success remains unclear, but the director’s willingness to share his struggles added a layer of authenticity to the project.

For fans of Telugu cinema, Dhamaka is a reminder that even "successful" films can come with unseen battles. Nakkina’s openness about his journey—both the triumphs and the setbacks—offers a rare glimpse behind the curtain of a high-stakes industry.
