Nikhil Siddhartha
Siddhu

When a heartbroken Siddhu stumbles upon a two-year-old diary, he finds himself drawn into the enigmatic world of a young woman named Nandini and falls for her.
I’ve always been a sucker for stories that begin with a found object—a letter, a photograph, a diary left behind. There’s something irresistible about the way an inanimate thing can become a portal, pulling a stranger into someone else’s life. 18 Pages leans hard into this trope, framing its romance around a two-year-old diary that falls into the hands of a heartbroken man named Siddhu.
The premise is simple, almost old-fashioned: he reads the diary, falls for the woman who wrote it, and sets out to find her. But what lingers isn’t the destination—it’s the journey of reading itself, the way words on a page can make a ghost feel alive.

The film’s title, of course, is a clue. Eighteen pages—just enough to sketch a life, not enough to contain one. That tension between the fragment and the whole is where 18 Pages lives.
Director Palnati Surya Pratap doesn’t rush the setup. The early scenes unfold with a deliberate slowness, letting us settle into Siddhu’s world: a man adrift after a breakup, his emotions still raw, his routines hollow. Nikhil Siddhartha plays him with a quiet restraint, his face often half-lit by the glow of a phone screen or the flicker of a passing streetlight.
There’s no grand gesture of despair, just a man going through the motions, until the diary lands in his lap like an unopened letter from fate.
What follows is a kind of literary seduction. The diary’s author, Nandini (Anupama Parameswaran), isn’t just a name on a page—she’s a voice, a rhythm, a way of seeing the world. The film’s most effective moments are the ones where it lets us hear her, not just through dialogue but through the texture of her writing.
"A charming romantic drama with strong lead performances, though the plot feels predictable at times."
The chemistry between Nikhil Siddhartha and Anupama Parameswaran makes the romance engaging and heartfelt. The storyline is conventional, a few side characters are underdeveloped, and the pace drags in the second half.

On 20 October 2020, Deccan Chronicle photographed Nikhil Siddhartha, Anupama Parameswaran, and Palnati Surya Pratap on a wet Hyderabad set. Shooting had begun at a software office. Sukumar was on the story and sharing the producing credit with Bunny Vas. latestnetflix.com's read is that the unit said they had searched a long time before locking Anupama. The director promised their scenes would "enthral audiences." That is a press-day line. The film still had two years of calendars left.
Cinema Express had titled the project in March 2020 as an 18-page love story, presented by Allu Aravind, directed by the Kumari 21F filmmaker who came out of Sukumar's writing room. Bunny Vas told Ragalahari the first schedule would stay in Hyderabad and surrounding areas, and that trade chatter was already loud because Sukumar wrote it. First look landed on Nikhil's birthday, 1 June 2021. Karthikeya 2 had not yet exploded. The diary movie sat in the queue while the actor became a pan-India name.
In a December 2022 TeluguOne interview, Surya Pratap walked through the gap after his first film Current. He joined Sukumar's writing team. Kumari 21F arrived during that stretch. He later rode along on Rangasthalam and Pushpa. He picked 18 Pages because it mixed emotions and put the audience inside two lives. "The ending of the film will stay with you long after you've left the theatre," he said. He also said Nikhil was now a pan-India star, so some changes were required, but not in the story. Nikhil, he added, wanted the same respect for the script.
News18 reported Nikhil's promotional anecdote from the dubbing booth. Anupama burst into tears while looping the climax. Allu Arjun showed up as chief guest at the Hyderabad pre-release. Gopi Sundar's album did the advance work. OTTplay flagged "Time Ivvu Pilla," a breakup track sung by Tamil star Silambarasan, plus "Nannaya Raasina" and "Yedurangula Vaana." Theaters got the film on 23 December 2022, a Christmas weekend. The Hindu's Sangeetha Devi Dundoo called the romance fairly compelling and the second-half thriller bumpier, then said the closing moments resurrected it.
OTTplay said aha and Netflix bought digital rights in a joint deal aimed at the latter half of January 2023. Wikipedia later printed a budget of 16 crore rupees and a global box-office estimate of 25 crore. Those figures are trade estimates, not a studio filing. English Wikipedia also tagged the plot as loosely inspired by The Lake House. The Telugu press cycle did not sell that Hollywood comparison. The actual hook is smaller and stranger. A phone-addicted app developer falls for a woman who writes 18 diary pages and refuses a mobile. Sukumar wrote it. His former assistant shot it. The diary is the celebrity.
